Eva (00:06):
You are listening to Less of You. I'm Eva.

Kami (00:08):
My name is Kami.

Eva (00:10):
Come with us as we confront our reasons for being obese while losing weight on semaglutide, and roasting our past selves.

Kami (00:19):
So I feel like I spend all this time organizing my office and it doesn't look any different. It's like what?

Eva (00:31):
To be honest, it looks worse.

Kami (00:36):
I, know right? It's like what the hell is that?

Eva (00:39):
It's pretty bad. I've had a request from the engineering team to introduce your bird.

Kami (00:46):
Oh. I moved her into the bathroom so she wouldn't bother us.

Eva (00:51):
She's like the co-host or she's like the color commentator.

Kami (00:56):
Yeah, she is. So I have the window open and when the window's open she likes to chirp at all of her friends outside, all of her besties, poor little thing. And so I was like, she's already starting to make a racket. So I was like, I'm just going to put her in the bathroom for now and then I'll put her back up in the window.

Eva (01:12):
What's her name?

Kami (01:13):
Her name's Millie.

Eva (01:14):
Oh, cute.

Kami (01:15):
Yeah, Kordelia named her.

Eva (01:18):
I wore my hat today to show you because, indeed, I did get skinnier in the skull.

Kami (01:24):
Is that right?

Eva (01:25):
It is. I put on another hat that I hadn't worn in a year and it is the same thing happened. It was like four notches smaller, so.

Kami (01:33):
I believe you.

Eva (01:34):
This is the hat that shocked me.

Kami (01:37):
Really?

Eva (01:38):
It's on the fourth hole and I could actually make it one or two smaller, which is kind of insane.

Kami (01:44):
Have you lost hair?

Eva (01:46):
No.

Kami (01:46):
Okay, good.

Eva (01:47):
I haven't lost any hair.

Kami (01:49):
Alright, well that's good.

Eva (01:49):
Still have too much. Thanks.

Kami (01:51):
Oh God.

Eva (01:53):
Okay, so you guys went on a trip and I'm curious, where did you go and tell me how your food behavior was different on vacation?

Kami (02:02):
Okay, so we drove down from Indianapolis down to Chattanooga. I have a brother that lives down there and we just, were going to go spend our spring break down there and my parents flew in and we had a wonderful time. What was crappy about it is that I ran out of my medication and so I didn't get to have a shot while I was there. So it was a little bit more of a struggle because I didn't have anything helping me. But overall I did okay. I think part of the issue was I think I gained two pounds back, but I'm pretty sure that's just water weight or I don't know, maybe I just want to blame it on that, but I did not drink as much water when I was there as I should have. So I feel like, oh, that's probably part of the problem.

Eva (02:54):
There's a couple things I can tell you. Just we want to try to be more than just snarky and sarcastic and actually be helpful to people once in a while when we can. You can run out and go quite a long time cuz the half-life is, I forget what the actual calculation is, but it takes a long time to get it out of your system. So every time you take it, actually you increase, goes up a step and then a week goes by and it comes back down. But it's actually laddering up all the time. So if you miss a dose, you have a while before it's really truly gone. It's like several weeks before it's completely gone.

Kami (03:34):
Oh really? Okay. I felt like, and maybe it was just in my brain, then I really felt, I was like, this is terrible.

Eva (03:40):
Some of it was real, some of it was in yours, probably a combo.

Kami (03:44):
Probably. Alright.

Eva (03:45):
The other thing I learned about traveling is you can take it with you and I have a little box that I put it in with an ice pack, but you have to have a written prescription from your doctor to travel with it, because if they open a box with some rando syringes in it in your luggage, they'll be like, this doesn't look legit.

Kami (04:06):
That happened to my mom too. She had some medication that was confiscated, cuz they were like, we're not really sure about this. And they're like, well, do you have your prescription? She's like, I don't carry that with me. What are you talking about? So they were like, sorry, this is ours. It wasn't even anything. It was like, I dunno, prescription was for joints. It was like a cream or something. I'm like, this is stupid, but.

Eva (04:26):
Was it CBD?

Kami (04:27):
I don't think so. I can't remember what it was.

Eva (04:31):
I use my original box, my travel box.

Kami (04:34):
Oh yeah.

Eva (04:34):
And then they just gave me the paper prescription, so I just shove it all in there with a little ice pack.

Kami (04:38):
Oh, okay.

Eva (04:39):
Stick it in my luggage.

Kami (04:40):
Well that's good. Well, I was driving so I didn't even get on an airplane, but the point is I just didn't have any.

Eva (04:45):
Did you forget it or you just ran out?

Kami (04:46):
No, I ran out and then so I ran out and I didn't realize that they would want to have another consultation with me before giving me a new vial, which totally makes sense. I was like, oh, duh. So I was messaging with the doctor and I'm like, Hey. So I booked my consultation. I see the nurse practitioner, but the woman that was messaging me was the doctor of the practice because my nurse practitioner was also on vacation for spring break. So I said, well, I booked the appointment with her, but I can't get in until the 11th. Would you feel comfortable just sending the refill in the meantime so I can get it shipped and I'll meet with her? And she's like, yeah, that was fine. She was totally cool with it. I'm like, oh, thank God. So that came while I was out and while I was in Tennessee, but I met with her, my consultation was great and she'd encouraged me to eat more protein and drink more water. I'm not a huge "meatatarian" type of person. I used to be. I just, when I was pregnant I had a real weird, see that's what I need to do and I was really thinking, I was like, I need to start buying protein drinks and just having those as my lunch. But I had a real weird aversion to meat while I was pregnant.

Eva (06:04):
Yeah, that's like tequila, right? Once you get sick on it,

Kami (06:09):
No tequila. You go back to, I will tell you, you go.

Eva (06:12):
I never did.

Kami (06:13):
Oh no, you go back to tequila. At least this lady did. And I never really kind of got my taste for it back. You normally would be like, oh yeah, I want to go to a restaurant and order a really nice steak. Now sometimes I do, but it has to be a really ridiculously like $40 filet mignon, cuz that's how this princess works.

Eva (06:30):
$40. You must live in a small town.

Kami (06:34):
No, I don't know how I just threw that, I have no idea how much they cost now. I'm sure they're way more than that, but at any rate, so she said you got to eat more protein and definitely more water, which I'm terrible, terrible at drinking water. Part of it's just like I don't think about, I'm just going through my day and going through my day and doing things and then I'm like, I've just gone this entire whole day and not drank a drop of water. And I was like, why do I have a headache, and why am I sluggish? And why, you know.

Eva (07:06):
So you want to do your numbers, what you got?

Kami (07:09):
Okay, so numbers. I started at 250. The lowest that I got was 230 and I'm back up to 233. I just weighed myself this morning. So I did come up a little bit, but when we were gone on this vacation, I basically let my daughter pick anything in the store that she wanted to eat. You know what I mean? I was just like, okay. I threw in an apple and a banana and then I called it a day. So there was a lot of stacking and a lot of candy that I was eating that I typically would not. And then we went to a baseball game and of course there's the concession food, which is, I'm pretty sure they marinate it in grease and then hand it to you, like cuz that's how they're supposed to do it. It was delicious. But afterwards I was like, this is a mistake. I should not have done this. It's not great afterwards. So I'm still sticking with a goal of 150. I mean, like we've said, I might stop at 160. I dunno. We'll see.

Eva (08:12):
Yeah.

Kami (08:13):
Where are you at?

Eva (08:15):
My start was 280 and I'm at 2 0 7.

Kami (08:20):
Good.

Eva (08:20):
I switched last Thursday from semaglutide to tirzepitide, because I had stalled for four months basically. I had really not lost anything in almost four months. So when I went in, we finally decided, yeah, let's switch and see what happens. So I went from 210 to 207 in one week.

Kami (08:42):
Oh wow. Okay.

Eva (08:43):
Since I switched. Now one of the funny things is I was saying this to a friend of ours this morning and she goes, you know it's sem-a-glutide, right, that's how they say it. And I was like, who says it?

Kami (08:56):
And who cares?

Eva (08:59):
I don't know anyone who calls it sem-a-glutide.

Kami (09:03):
Tomato. Tomato. Okay,

Eva (09:06):
Okay. I'm not going to change. I'm not swimming upstream on that one. I'm just not.

Kami (09:11):
No. Oh my god. There was this video. No, I swear to God, I have to text you this video, cuz you'll keel over and die. So it was like this meme or something I saw it was on Pinterest or whatever and the top of it says, I had no idea that I was mispronouncing microwave my whole life. And then it's this,

Eva (09:30):
What?

Kami (09:30):
It's this video of this woman and she's cooking and she's got a cup of milk and she's very British and she's like, yes, I just warmed this cup of milk up in the micro-wav-e.

Eva (09:44):
What?

Kami (09:44):
I wanted to die. Literally I saw this, of course it's like when I'm like two o'clock in the morning and I can't sleep and I'm scrolling through Pinterest and looking at all this shit and I'm in the bed with my daughter because she got up in the middle of the night and I am laughing so hard. I wake her up and she's like, mommy, what are you doing? I'm like, nothing baby. It's fine. The micro-wav-e, oh my god, it was so priceless. I said it to

Eva (10:13):
Kordelia, she's reading right? Does she mispronounce words funny ones all the time?

Kami (10:18):
Yes. So she does say things. Yeah. So she's starting to read she, she's starting to recognize words and stuff like that, but, in the micro-wav-e I was like, what the fuck? And truly, I'm like, how do I find the source material?

Eva (10:33):
Was it real?

Kami (10:34):
I don't know. I was like, how do I find the source material for this little seven second clip of this stuck up British lady? And I was like, and I mean stuck up and I don't mean that in a bad way. I'm like, she's just so proper and whatever. And anyways, I was like, I need to know where this came from and to see if this woman was just goofing off and just overdoing it and being dramatic and being like, and now we've warmed up the milk and the micro-wav-e. You know what I mean? If she, or is she really think that it's pronounced like that? I'm like inquiring minds want to know.

Eva (11:10):
I've reached a funny spot. I didn't say what my goal weight was. I still don't really know.

Kami (11:14):
And I interrupted you besides that, yes.

Eva (11:16):
It's okay. That's fine. It was worth it for the micro-wav-e. People have started to say to me, so are you done? Are you done? And I'm sort of like the CDC still says I'm obese according to the calculator. So I have to think about how am I going to respond to this, are you done question, because I still have a long way to go. It's not relative. It's not like, do you think that if I came in at this weight, let's say I came in at 207 and you didn't know that I had already lost 70 something pounds, would you be like, yeah, no, you don't need to lose any weight.

Kami (11:53):
Right?

Eva (11:54):
I don't think so.

Kami (11:55):
That's kind of a weird question to ask somebody though.

Eva (11:58):
Are you done? Because are you really saying, because you were so unbelievably large before and you look so much better now?

Kami (12:06):
That you should just be okay?

Eva (12:07):
Yeah.

Kami (12:09):
What is that? That's weird.

Eva (12:13):
One of the things I did over the weekend and I was at a trade show in Las Vegas at the medical spa show, and the only thing anybody was talking about was this weight loss program. It was the hottest conversation that I've heard in years. Yes, everyone.

Kami (12:30):
Wow.

Eva (12:30):
The other thing I did that I've never done before was I tried on swimsuits in the hotel shop in the Wynn, and they all fit.

Kami (12:40):
Wow, good for you.

Eva (12:42):
It was very, very strange. I didn't buy one because then the lady was like, well the pool closes in 40 minutes. So I was like, eh, I'm not willing to buy a swimsuit for 20 minutes by the pool.

Kami (12:58):
Well, I'm sure they're not the cheapest ones either.

Eva (13:01):
No, they were gottex and they were like $150 each, so.

Kami (13:03):
Yeah.

Eva (13:05):
If I had to really loved one of 'em, I would've gotten it anyway. But they weren't like that. They were pretty good. Yeah, it was really interesting and I am getting so much positive feedback from people that have known me for a long time. Most people aren't afraid to just say, oh my god, you look amazing. It's out in the open. No one's being quiet about it, which is also a little unusual.

Kami (13:31):
Yeah. What else is new?

Eva (13:35):
I ran out of pants again.

Kami (13:39):
What size are you wearing now? I should send you some.

Eva (13:40):
12 some.

Kami (13:42):
Oh okay. No, you're way smaller than me. Nevermind.

Eva (13:44):
What do you need? I'll send you some.

Kami (13:46):
Yes. I need a 16.

Eva (13:48):
Oh, you know what? I'll pack up a bunch of stuff for you. I don't know what to do with it all. It's like probably eight bins in the corner of my room right now and I have to figure out where it should go.

Kami (13:59):
Yeah. Oh my gosh, that'd be awesome. But yeah, I have a whole bunch of crap that I'm need to get rid of, but we're going to have a community yard sale in June, so I'm kind of stockpiling stuff for that.

Eva (14:11):
Yeah, that sounds fun.

Kami (14:12):
Yep.

Eva (14:14):
Any side effects?

Kami (14:16):
No, but I'm probably going to go up in my dose. So when I met with the nurse practitioner, so I'm on 20 units and she's like, you don't have to bump from 20 to 40, you can go 25 and see how you do. And so I feel like, okay, well since I plateaued for a little bit and I gained a couple pounds back, I was like, I'm going to bump this up a little bit. Like I've said before, my only side effect I ever had was some heartburn, but besides that, I haven't had anything.

Eva (14:46):
I had noticed that my nails got really brittle.

Kami (14:49):
Really?

Eva (14:50):
I broke like three or four in a week while I was in Vegas and hauling gear around and setting up equipment. I broke three or four nails. It was really frustrating and I wondered if it was a nutrition thing because I'm not eating as much or maybe I'm not eating as well as I used to, or if it was a side effect of medication, I don't know. I need to spend some time googling that one.

Kami (15:17):
Do you take any kind of supplements, like multivitamins or anything like that?

Eva (15:21):
Yeah, but I'm not consistent. I could be doing a better job.

Kami (15:24):
I know I'm terrible with it. Absolutely terrible. My mom even gave me these really nice vitamins and I feel like guilty, cuz they've just been collecting dust.

Eva (15:30):
Well, the big ones are hard to swallow and that is actually a weird thing because of the medication, if they're really big, they kind of are hard to digest. They don't digest very fast with the.

Kami (15:44):
Oh, that's interesting to think about. Okay.

Eva (15:45):
Yeah, so I need 'em to be smaller.

Kami (15:48):
I've been getting the gummies, after you said the magnesium gummies I bought some. That's when I went and bought the multivitamin. So I have the multivitamin, calcium, C, magnesium. Those are the four that I do.

Eva (16:03):
There is one thing you were talking about. She said you could ramp slowly. There's one thing I heard that I want to also tell you about because it's pretty scary. I'm talking to doctors constantly and I'm just sort of gather lots and lots of information. I heard from a doctor that some bad actors out there were having people ramp faster than the schedule. So no one's going to say, going slower is a problem, slower is fine. If you feel fine and you're getting results go slower. But there are people making them go faster, like ramping faster.

Kami (16:39):
Oh no.

Eva (16:40):
And that is a terrible idea.

Kami (16:43):
Yeah. Well it says it right on the package, the medication, what you should do at what point, that's so. Well everybody wants to instant fix and this is not that.

Eva (16:54):
It is not.

Kami (16:56):
And this is a slow and steady wins the race kind of situation.

Eva (17:00):
Yeah, I've had a great experience and I've been on it for 14 months and I've gone very slowly. I even stayed at the same dose longer than I needed to back when I was starting. Well, I think that's a pretty good update for today.

Kami (17:16):
Oh, what did we decide, uh.

Eva (17:18):
Our thing was going to be?

Kami (17:20):
Yes. Oh, and I never watched the fricking Oprah thing.

Eva (17:24):
Oh we gotta do that.

Kami (17:25):
Yes. So, maybe I'll do that this weekend.

Eva (17:30):
What if we did something like it was just an idea, but it's pretty easy as I'm doing it all the time already. What if we did something like the one thing you need to read or watch that we read or watched in the last two weeks? Cuz I have one here that was about switching and it was so memorable, I read it a year ago and I never forgot it.

Kami (17:49):
Oh, okay. Yeah, I love it.

Eva (17:51):
Can you think of anything that you read or watched in the last two weeks that would be useful to other people?

Kami (17:56):
I haven't really read anything. Well, no, I take that back. So as far as reading something, I started this really cute book series that's for kids, but it's like a chapter book and it's called The Tail, TAIL of Emily Windsnap. And it's about this little 11-year-old girl that doesn't realize that she's a mermaid. This is cute story. And so it's a book series and I picked it up at Costco and I read it to my daughter. So this is the first actual chapter book that we've started. I've started reading to her that wasn't just a normal kid's book.

Eva (18:33):
Emily Windsnap. Okay. I'm writing it down because it's useful to me.

Kami (18:37):
Yeah.

Eva (18:37):
But I think what I really meant was about,

Kami (18:40):
That's all I've read.

Eva (18:42):
Have you read or watched anything useful to people who are on the meds, about being on the meds?

Kami (18:48):
No. That is a no, I haven't because I read kids' books and I watch crime dramas. So those, that's all I've done the last few weeks, so.

Eva (18:59):
Okay. For next time, can you at least find one thing that would be useful to the audience? Thanks.

Kami (19:05):
Alright, you're welcome.

Eva (19:06):
And I'm going to tell you what mine is because I already mentioned it and it's so good. It's in Wired magazine. It was written on February 3rd of 23 called a New Drug Switched Off My Appetite, What's Left. And this person was very similar to me and his account of how he changed once he was on it, it really resonated with me. So I'll put that link in the show notes and I'll send it to you so you can read it too. It was really good. Also, I spent a lot of time on Reddit and the Semaglutide sub, I mean Sem-a-glutide. Sorry.

Kami (19:41):
Sem-a-glutide. Make sure you warm up your sandwich in the micro-wav-e.

Eva (19:51):
<laugh> If I remember to eat, I will.

Kami (19:53):
Okay, great. Oh man. So side note, if you just want to feel totally ancient and irrelevant, you should watch the documentary called Brandy. It's called Brandy Hellville.

Eva (20:10):
I am halfway through that.

Kami (20:12):
I feel like I am watching shit going down another planet. I'm like, what in the actual hell is this shit? One size, I was like when they showed the T-shirt and they laid it down on top of the toddler T-shirt. I dunno if you got to that part. I was like.

Eva (20:33):
I haven't gotten to that part, but I can visualize that.

Kami (20:37):
It's shocking.

Eva (20:39):
You know, now that you're saying that I have noticed that now I'm trying on clothes that are fourteens and twelves and they fit. But 15 years ago or 20 years maybe somewhere around there, when I actually did wear 12 and 14, I was not this weight. So I'm noticing that 12 and 14 and large and extra large are much bigger than they were 15 years ago. Much, much bigger.

Kami (21:10):
Totally. A hundred percent agree.

Eva (21:12):
Which works in reverse too, because when I was 270 pounds and I said, oh, this is an extra large and it fits, I must not be that fat.

Kami (21:19):
No, you were.

Eva (21:20):
I would not admit that the extra large had gotten larger.

Kami (21:24):
Yes, a hundred percent. Totally. Yeah.

Eva (21:27):
You got to go get your burger and I got to go to, I have an appointment.

Kami (21:31):
Okay, well it's good to see you as always.

Eva (21:34):
Good chat.

Kami (21:36):
And I'll try to stay focused and not go down my true crime rabbit hole and.

Eva (21:41):
If it's a true crime, then involves GLP one medication, then bring it.

Kami (21:46):
Okay.

Eva (21:49):
